Surat-Kanpur Passenger Bus Catches Fire in Madhya Pradesh, Passengers Escape by Breaking Windows

A private passenger bus travelling from Surat to Kanpur caught fire near Sardarpur in Madhya Pradesh late at night, triggering panic among passengers who rushed out of the burning vehicle, with some reportedly breaking windows to escape.

Several passengers sustained minor injuries, while most of their belongings were reduced to ashes. No major casualties were immediately reported.

Driver Stops Bus After Smoke Spotted

The incident occurred near Bhopawar Chowki in Sardarpur town. According to preliminary information, smoke began emerging from the bus while it was travelling towards Kanpur.

The driver stopped the vehicle on the roadside after noticing the smoke, following which the fire spread and engulfed the bus. Passengers scrambled to escape, with some running out through the door and others breaking window panes and jumping out.

The sudden blaze caused panic inside the bus.

Woman Throws 8-Year-Old Son Out of Window to Save Him

A passenger, Neelam Pal from Kanpur, said she was travelling with her eight-year-old son when the bus suddenly filled with smoke.

She said she threw her son out through a window before escaping herself.

The incident left some passengers with minor injuries, while luggage and other belongings kept inside the bus were destroyed in the fire.

Bus Had Stopped Near Dahod for Four Hours

Passengers said the bus had remained parked for around four hours at a hotel near Dahod in Gujarat before the journey resumed.

According to them, technical work was carried out on the bus during the halt. The fire broke out later while the vehicle was travelling through Madhya Pradesh.

Police are expected to examine whether any technical fault or other mechanical issue was linked to the blaze.

Traffic Diverted, Passengers Sent Onward

After receiving information, Sardarpur SDOP Vishwadeep Singh Parihar and a police team reached the spot.

Police stopped traffic on one side of the road and diverted vehicles through the other side while emergency personnel dealt with the fire.

By the time the fire brigade and ambulance arrived, much of the bus had been gutted. Firefighters later brought the blaze under control.

After first aid was provided to the injured passengers, police arranged for them to board other buses travelling towards Indore so they could continue their onward journey.
