Nasirnagar Demolition: SMC suspends five engineers

The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has taken action in the controversial Nasirnagar demolition case. Five municipal engineers, including two executive engineers, have been placed under immediate suspension pending a departmental inquiry.

The controversy stems from a demolition drive carried out on May 30, 2026, in the Central Zone area of Surat. After affected parties moved the High Court, the SMC formed a special investigation committee to look into the enforcement actions. 

Based on the findings of the inquiry committee report, the civic body issued immediate suspension orders to ensure an impartial and neutral departmental probe.

SMC's Public Relations Department, the suspended civil engineers are:

• Sujal Kumar Dharamshibhai Prajapati (Executive Engineer, Civil)
• Jayang Rajnikant Jivanramjiwala (Executive Engineer, Civil)
• Arpan Mansukhlal Parmar (Deputy Engineer, Civil)
• Monik Babubhai Gadhia (Assistant Engineer, Civil)
• Nareshkumar Binalbhai Galchar (Junior Engineer, Civil)

Inquiry details reveal that Executive Engineer Jayang Jivanramjiwala was directly overseeing the demolition as the zonal officer. Meanwhile, the presence of Road Department 

Since the two executive engineers are Class-1 officers, the Municipal Commissioner is likely to present a formal suspension proposal to the Standing Committee before seeking final approval from the General Assembly.
