The Indian cricket team has suffered another setback during the ODI series against New Zealand. All-rounder Washington Sundar has been ruled out of the remaining matches after picking up an injury in the first ODI played in Vadodara, according to reports.

Sundar felt pain in his left lower rib area while bowling during the match. Although he completed his five-over spell, he later left the field, and Dhruv Jurel replaced him as a substitute fielder. Despite doubts over his fitness, Sundar came out to bat when India lost quick wickets during the chase.

On Monday, the BCCI confirmed that Sundar will not take part in the rest of the series and will undergo further medical scans. The team management will seek expert advice before deciding his recovery plan.

As a replacement, Ayush Badoni has received his maiden ODI call-up. The young all-rounder will join the Indian squad in Rajkot ahead of the second ODI on Wednesday.

India had  won the first ODI by four wickets, successfully chasing a target of 301. Captain Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli played key roles in the victory, with Kohli scoring a brilliant 93 runs.

This injury comes as another blow for India after Rishabh Pant was also ruled out just before the series opener. Despite the challenges, the team will look to continue their winning momentum in the remaining matches.
