The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced the match officials- 16 umpires and four match referees- for the upcoming ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

The names declared today are for the league games only, and the officials for the semi-finals and final will be declared later.

Out of 16 umpires, 12 belong to the Elite Panel of umpires.

12 Umpires from the Elite Panel

1. Christopher Gaffaney (New Zealand)
2. Kumar Dharmasena (Sri Lanka)
3. Marais Erasmus (South Africa)
4. Michael Gough (England)
5. Nitin Menon (India)
6. Paul Reiffel (Australia)
7. Richard Illingworth (England)
8. Richard Kettleborough (England)
9. Rodney Tucker (Australia)
10. Joel Wilson (West Indies)
11. Ahsan Raza (Pakistan)
12. Adrian Holdstock (South Africa)

The remaining four umpires from the ‘Emerging Umpire Panel’ 

1. Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid (Bangladesh)
2. Paul Wilson (Australia)
3. Alex Wharf (England)
4. Chris Brown (New Zealand)

Notably, Kumar Dharmasena, Marais Erasmus, and Rodney Tucker were the umpires for the World Cup 2019 final, too. The action-packed 2019 final also had Aleem Dar as the match official, however, he will miss the 2023 edition of the World Cup after stepping down from the elite panel in Mar 2023.

All four match referees declared for the event are former players of the game.

The tournament opener between England and New Zealand on Oct 5 will have Nitin Menon and Kumar Dharmasena as the on-field umpires, with Paul Wilson as the TV umpire (3rd umpire), and Sharfuddoula Ibne Shahid as the fourth umpire. Andy Pycroft will be the match referee.
