Two men were apprehended in the early hours of Sunday for allegedly selling tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 final at prices far higher than the official rate in the Ellisbridge area of Ahmedabad, police said.

As per the First Information Report (FIR) registered at Ellisbridge Police Station, the accused were caught during a raid by a police team following a tip-off about black marketing of match tickets ahead of the clash between India and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium on March 8.

A team was on patrol duty in the Ellisbridge area as part of security arrangements for the final match.

Around 2.30 am, the police team received information from an informant that two individuals were selling tickets for the T20 World Cup final in the black market near V S Hospital and Bharati Ashram.

Acting on the tip-off, police officials, reached the location and conducted a raid. One of the officers approached the suspects in plain clothes posing as a prospective buyer and asked for tickets for the final match.

The suspects allegedly offered two tickets for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final, each originally priced at ₹2,000, for ₹10,000, police said.

Once the tickets were shown, the police team revealed their identity and detained the two men on the spot.

During questioning, the accused identified themselves as Karansinh Mahendrasinh Gohil (24), a resident of Sabarmati, and Dharmil Amitbhai Patwa (30), a resident of Paldi.

Police said the accused were unable to produce any valid pass or permit authorising them to sell the tickets. The tickets recovered from them were seized.

Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under relevant provisions of the Gujarat Police Act, and further investigation has been initiated.
