Teen sensation Sooryavanshi in contention for India debut on Ireland tour: Reports

Teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is in contention for a senior India debut, with selectors reportedly shortlisting the 15-year-old for the upcoming tour of Ireland as part of efforts to test the team’s bench strength.
Reports citing sources in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) said Sooryavanshi has been included among a pool of players being considered for the series, which is expected to feature a largely second-string squad under the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar.
The young batter is also likely to be considered for the subsequent tour of Zimbabwe later this year, according to reports.
Sooryavanshi has attracted widespread attention following an impressive start to the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) season with the Rajasthan Royals. His performances include a 26-ball 78 against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, a 17-ball 52 against the Chennai Super Kings, and a 14-ball 39 against the Mumbai Indians.
The performances have prompted several former cricketers to back his elevation to the national side. IPL chairman Arun Dhumal reportedly said the youngster has the potential to become India’s youngest debutant.
At present, Sachin Tendulkar holds the record as the youngest male cricketer to represent India internationally, having debuted at 16 years and 205 days, while Shafali Verma remains the youngest overall, making her debut at 15 years, seven months and 27 days.
