Sinner defeats Alcaraz to retain ATP Finals title in Turin

Jannik Sinner capped off an outstanding season on Sunday by defeating world No 1 Carlos Alcaraz 7–6(4), 7–5 to claim the ATP Finals title, successfully defending his crown before an energized home crowd. The victory marked Sinner’s second win over the Spaniard this year, following his triumph in the Wimbledon final.
Alcaraz, who had already secured the year-end No. 1 ranking, was contesting his first championship match at the season-ending event featuring the world’s top eight players.
Sinner’s path to the title was highlighted by his straight-sets victory over Alex de Minaur, 7–5, 6–2, in the semifinals, which sent him into his third consecutive ATP Finals championship match. The 24-year-old extended his indoor winning streak to 30 matches and has not lost indoors since falling to Novak Djokovic in the 2022 final. He also improved his unbeaten record against de Minaur to 13–0 and moved through the round-robin stage without dropping a set or his serve. With his latest run in Turin, Sinner became the youngest player since Lleyton Hewitt in 2004 to reach three straight ATP Finals finals.
Sinner said competing in Italy continues to elevate his performance and credited the home support for fueling his confidence throughout the week.
Despite the loss, de Minaur concluded one of the strongest seasons of his career, finishing with a 56–24 record his first year surpassing 50 wins and capturing one title, the ATP 500 event in Washington.
