Sindhu, Lakshya exit Indonesia Masters after quarter-final losses
India’s journey at the Indonesia Masters 500 badminton tournament ended on Friday after top players P V Sindhu and Lakshya Sen were knocked out in the quarter-finals. Both players tried their best but could not win their matches in Jakarta.
P V Sindhu loses to Chen Yu Fei
India’s star shuttler P V Sindhu lost to China’s top-seeded player Chen Yu Fei in the women’s singles quarter-final. Sindhu lost the match in straight games, 13-21 and 17-21.
Chen Yu Fei was in complete control of the first game and won it easily. She played fast and attacked Sindhu time and again. Chen used smart shots on Sindhu’s backhand and later hit powerful smashes on her forehand side. Sindhu found it hard to defend and could not return the shuttle deep into the court.
Sindhu played better and showed confidence in the second game, but losing review challenges led to frustration and on-court drama. Despite a strong comeback, she lost the game 21-17 and was knocked out of the Indonesia Masters.
Lakshya Sen also exited the tournament after losing a close match to Thailand’s Panitchapon Teeraratsakul. Though he fought hard, he could not win key points.
With both players eliminated, India’s campaign at the Indonesia Masters came to an end.
Indian fans will now hope for better performances from Sindhu and Lakshya in the upcoming tournaments.
