Shreyas Iyer set to return to BCCI's central contract after exclusion
Indian Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer, who was unceremoniously left out of the BCCI’s central contract last year for not complying with the board’s domestic cricket directives, is all set to be reinstated in the revised annual contract.
Despite being one of India’s top performers in the home ODI World Cup 2023, both Iyer and Ishan Kishan – who was also part of the squad for all formats – were excluded from the contract last year. Both players had failed to represent their domestic sides, Mumbai and Jharkhand, respectively.
Iyer, however, earned back his spot in the ODI team and even went on to become the highest run-scorer in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 with 243 runs from five matches in Dubai last month. In contrast, Kishan has not played a single match for India in 2024.
According to sources, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are set to retain the A+ category, which is reserved for players who represent India in all formats, despite their retirement from the T20 cricket. Last year, this contract was awarded to Kohli, Rohit, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah.
As per BCCI guidelines, players who meet the criteria of playing a minimum of 3 Tests, 8 ODIs, and 10 T20Is within a specific period will automatically be included in Grade C.
