Despite leading and winning the T20 World Cup 2026 title, Suryakumar Yadav is expected to be removed from captaincy due to his poor form in batting. The selection committee reportedly is considering Shreyas Iyer as new T20I captain which will be announced in a Series of Ireland and England after IPL.

Yadav has excellent numbers in T20I but recently he is struggling in scoring runs since he became the captain of India. In the recent T20 world cup, he scored 242 runs with only one half century against USA in the opening match. Currently, in the IPL 2026 season, he has managed to score just 195 runs in 10 games for Mumbai Indians. These numbers remain concerning for him to remain captain.

Despite his lack of form in batting, Yadav is yet to lose a single T20I Series since taking over as Indian captain after Rohit Sharma’s retirement. He has repeatedly expressed his desire to remain captain for next two years.

Meanwhile, Iyer is the front-runner to become the new captain. Currently, in terms of his performance, he led Punjab Kings to six wins from their first seven matches and also scored 333 runs in nine innings.

Sheryas Iyer is likely to be announced India’s captain in the upcoming two match series against Ireland and five matches against England.
