Seven-time F1 champion Schumacher no longer bedridden: Reports

Formula One (F1) great Michael Schumacher, widely regarded as one of the sport’s greatest champions, is reportedly no longer confined to bed and can be moved in a wheelchair, according to reports.
The seven-time world champion has remained out of the public eye since suffering a severe head injury in a skiing accident in the French Alps in December 2013. Since then, fans have received only limited and carefully controlled updates about his condition, as his family has chosen to keep details of his health private.
An exclusive report by a prominent news agency has now claimed that Schumacher, who is cared for at his home by his wife Corinna and a team of doctors, is able to sit up in a wheelchair. Quoting a source, the report said, “He understands some of the things going on around him, but probably not all of them.”
While Schumacher remains shielded from public view, the update has been welcomed by fans who have not seen the former Ferrari and Mercedes driver since the accident left him critically injured. Schumacher suffered catastrophic head trauma after striking a hidden rock while skiing, being thrown several metres forward and hitting his head on a boulder. He was airlifted to hospital, where he underwent multiple brain surgeries and spent several months in a coma before returning home to continue his recovery.
Since then, Corinna Schumacher has remained by his side, supported by medical professionals, and has consistently stressed the family’s wish to protect his privacy.
Schumacher retired from F1 holding records for the most world championships, race wins and podium finishes. While his tally of seven world titles has since been matched by Lewis Hamilton, Schumacher remains an iconic figure in the sport.
Married to Corinna since 1995, Schumacher now lives a quiet life at home. His daughter married in 2024, while his son Mick Schumacher, who previously raced in Formula One, now competes in the IndyCar Series. Reports in the past have suggested Schumacher may have attended family events, including his daughter Gina’s wedding, though these claims were never confirmed.
Earlier this month, Gina marked her father’s 57th birthday by sharing a childhood family photograph on social media, writing: “The best forever. Happy birthday, papa.”
