Seven from Gujarat shine in national-level junior athletics meet held in state

The 19th National Inter-District Junior Athletics Meet (NIDJAM), 2024, was held in Gujarat from Feb 16 to 18. This competition was hosted by the state for the first time.

The three-day-long event took place at Ahmedabad’s Gujarat University under the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) and the Gujarat government’s Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG).

A total of 12 games, including long and short running, javelin throw, and shot put, among others, segregated into 24 different event categories, were organised.

Around 6,000 athletes from 615 districts in India participated in these games. A total of 72 first-, second-, and third-ranked winners were felicitated with their respective medals by the AFI.

Winners from Gujarat

Seven of the winners are from Gujarat. These local winners have secured three gold, three bronze, and one silver medal.

Dhairya Bhanderi, Kheda - Gold - U16 javelin throw

Kinjal Thakor, Kheda - Gold - U14 triathlon B

Roshanba Vala, Amreli - Gold - 60m sprint

Ramila Solanki, Kheda - Silver - U16 high jump

Lavishka Nagar, Ahmedabad - Bronze - triathlon C

Dhimahi Trivedi, Ahmedabad - Bronze - U16 pentathlon

Kavya Agarwal, Ahmedabad - Bronze - U14 triathlon A

These games are organised every year in different states to promote sports at the junior level nationwide and scout for talents to promote at the national and international levels.
