A security official for the BCCI’s official merchandise store has landed in trouble for allegedly stealing a total of 261 IPL jerseys worth over ₹6.5 lakh, as per reports.
According to reports citing Mumbai police, the incident reportedly took place on June 13 at Wankhede Stadium, but an FIR was filed over a month later, on July 17.
Investigators are reportedly scanning CCTV footage and other technical evidence to trace the sequence of events and recover the missing jerseys.
Jerseys of players of various IPL teams, including Delhi Capitals (DC), Mumbai Indians (MI), Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Punjab Kings (PBKS), Gujarat Titans (GT), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), were stolen, noted the reports.
The security official had illegally entered the store with his accomplices for the robbery.
Notably, Siddhesh Lad-led Mumbai South Central Maratha Royals lifted the T20 Mumbai League 2025 trophy after beating Shreyas Iyer-led SoBo Mumbai Falcons by five wickets in the grand final at the Wankhede Stadium last month.
The final was played in front of a packed stadium with members of India’s first World Cup winning side Kapil Dev and Dilip Vengsarkar, and 2024 T20 World Cup winning captain Rohit Sharma in the stands.
