Sajan Prakash wins 200m butterfly gold at Dubai Open; Advait Page takes bronze
India’s leading swimmer, Sajan Prakash, delivered a strong performance at the Dubai Open Swimming Championships on Saturday, winning the gold medal in the men’s 200m butterfly, while compatriot Advait Page secured a bronze in the men’s 1500m freestyle.
Sajan clocked 1:59.61 to claim the top podium spot, finishing ahead of Japan’s Olympic medallist and world record holder Daiya Seto. His national record in the event, set in 2021 at 1:56.38, remains his personal best.
Speaking after the race, Sajan’s coach Sandeep Sejwal, an Arjuna Awardee and former Asian Games medallist, said the competition was valuable preparation. “It was just racing experience that they are getting here in Dubai. It’s important to know where they stand. We will now be heading to Bhutan for a three-week training camp,” he said.
In other events, Sajan finished seventh in the men’s 400m freestyle with a time of 4:02.94, while Advait placed ninth in the same race, clocking 4:09.77. Britain’s Olympic medallist James Guy won the gold medal in the event with a time of 3:49.27.
In the women’s events, Jahnabi Kashyap finished tenth overall in the girls’ 16-and-above 400m freestyle, recording a time of 4:36.83. The gold medal in the race was won by Lojine Hamed of ALS, who clocked 4:18.14.
Mannata Mishra competed in the girls’ 16-and-above 50m breaststroke and finished 14th overall with a time of 35.07 seconds.
