Delay in the promotion of staff at the Sports Authority of Gujarat (SAG) for the past two years has created a great deal of frustration among the employees. The employees have now lodged a formal complaint with the Director General of SAG over the issue.

Promotion procedures usually begin with preparation of a merit list, from which candidates are selected based on a roster system that prioritises Scheduled Tribes, Scheduled Castes and General categories in a specific order. However, employees allege that the roster system is not being properly followed.

Currently, 41 posts of District Sports Development Officers and 4 positions for Chief Coaches remain vacant.

Several staff members who have played key roles in training athletes at state and national levels claim they have been allegedly overlooked for promotions. Despite their contributions, their professional growth remains stagnant, leading to resentment against the management.

Many of them, who have worked at SAG for over a decade, have reportedly voiced strong objections over being denied promotions they believe they rightly deserve.
