The Prime Volleyball League (PVL) will host its landmark fifth season at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex in Naranpura, Ahmedabad, starting 30 November 2026, tournament organisers announced on Monday.
The month-long tournament will feature all ten franchises competing in Gujarat's financial hub as the city builds world-class infrastructure ahead of its bid for the 2036 Olympic Games and preparations for the 2030 Commonwealth Games.
Multi-City Expansion Strategy Reaches Gujarat
The move to bring the entire fifth season to Ahmedabad aligns with the league's policy of shifting host cities every year to build local fan bases across India. The upcoming edition will feature 10 teams: home side Ahmedabad Defenders, Bengaluru Torpedoes, Calicut Heroes, Chennai Blitz, Delhi Toofans, Goa Guardians, Kochi Blue Spikers, Kolkata Thunderbolts, Mumbai Meteors, and Telugu Black Hawks.
"Taking Season 5 to Ahmedabad is another important step in our journey to grow professional volleyball across India," said Joy Bhattacharjya, Chief Executive Officer of the Prime Volleyball League. "We have consciously taken the league to different cities each season to reach new audiences and strengthen the sport's footprint."
Pravin Chaudhari, owner of the Ahmedabad Defenders, highlighted the city's readiness to host high-profile events at the Naranpura venue. "As the city prepares to host major international sporting events and continues developing world-class infrastructure, hosting PVL at the Veer Savarkar Sports Complex is another exciting opportunity to showcase its sporting capabilities," Chaudhari stated.
Global Recognition And Ranking Surge Drive Growth
Season 5 arrives following key administrative and competitive breakthroughs for Indian volleyball over the past year. The Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB) officially recognized the PVL as India's top-tier professional first division league.
Concurrently, the Indian men's national volleyball team climbed from World No. 60 to World No. 42 in the official FIVB rankings. The ranking surge followed strong international campaigns, including performances at the 2026 Asian Games, the AVC Continental Cup, and the AVC Men's Cup held in Japan and Ahmedabad.
Tuhin Mishra, Managing Director and Co-Founder of Baseline Ventures and Director of the Prime Volleyball League, pointed to the sport's rising profile across Asia. "With FIVB recognition and the Indian men's national team making significant progress internationally, there is tremendous momentum around volleyball in India," Mishra said. "Our focus remains on strengthening the professional ecosystem, creating opportunities for Indian talent and expanding the sport's reach."
The tournament matches will run through December at the Naranpura complex, marking the first time the premier indoor league stages its full schedule in Gujarat.
