Over 16,000 FIFA World Cup 2026 tickets cancelled amid boycott calls citing ‘climate of fear’ in US: Reports

More than 16,000 tickets for the FIFA World Cup 2026 have been cancelled amid growing calls for a boycott, with critics raising concerns over a perceived ‘climate of fear’ in the United States, as per reports.
The cancellations have triggered renewed debate around safety, inclusivity and the overall environment for fans ahead of the global football spectacle, which is set to be jointly hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Meanwhile, the original FIFA World Cup Trophy returned to India after a gap of 12 years as part of its global tour organised by Coca-Cola.
The iconic trophy was unveiled in New Delhi, where it will remain on display for two days before travelling to Guwahati.
Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said the trophy’s visit aims to inspire young Indians and strengthen the country’s sporting culture. FIFA legend Gilberto D’Silva described the occasion as an opportunity to ignite footballing dreams among the next generation.
The trophy tour comes at a time when global attention is firmly fixed on the upcoming World Cup, amid both excitement and concerns surrounding the tournament’s organisation and fan experience.
