Novak Djokovic breaks records, reaches 2026 Australian Open final
Novak Djokovic created history at the 2026 Australian Open by reaching the final after defeating Jannik Sinner in a thrilling five set match with this win, Djokovic broke multiple world records and became the oldest player ever to reach the Australian open men's singles final.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion beat the defending Jannik Sinner 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 in the semi final at Rod Laver Arena. The match lasted more than four hours and nine minutes and was one of the most dramatic matches of his career.
This victory helped Djokovic reach his 38th Grand Slam final, the most by any tennis player in history. He will now play Carlos Alcaraz in the final. If Djokovic wins, he will claim his 25th Grand Slam title, making him the most successful singles player in tennis history, among both men and women.
Djokovic will be playing his 11th Australian open final. He has won the title on all 10 previous occasions, making him the most successful player at the tournament.
The Serbian star also broke a 54-year-old record held by Ken Rosewall by becoming the oldest man to reach the Australian open final. In addition, he set another record by having the longest gap between a player’s first and latest Grand Slam final appearance, a span of 6,270 days. His first final came at the 2007 US open, and this record earlier belonged to Roger Federer.
Djokovic last appeared in a Grand Slam final at the 2023 US open, and this marks his first major final since the 2024 Wimbledon.
