New rules for IPL 2026: Practice and family travel restrictions introduced

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a fresh set of rules ahead of IPL 2026 to ensure better discipline and smooth conduct of the tournament, as per reports. These rules will be followed by all 10 teams.
One of the biggest changes is that teams will not be allowed to practice on match days. The board has reportedly limited practice matches- each team can play only two, and that too with prior permission. These matches cannot last more than three and a half hours.
The BCCI has also made strict arrangements regarding practice facilities. Teams will no longer be allowed to share practice nets. Each team will get separate nets, along with dedicated areas for activities like rage hitting and bowling practice. Additionally, home teams cannot practice on the main match pitch for four days before the first game.
Another important rule is about players’ travel. Family members and friends will not be allowed to travel with players during the tournament, as per reports. Players must use the official team bus for practice sessions and matches.
The board has also introduced rules for on-field discipline and presentation. Players and support staff are not allowed to sit near LED advertising boards during matches. It is also mandatory for players to wear the orange and purple caps, at least during the initial overs, so broadcasters can capture them clearly.
Dress code rules have also been tightened. Sleeveless jerseys and slippers are not allowed during post-match presentations. A first violation will lead to a warning, while repeated mistakes will result in fines.
These new guidelines aim to bring more structure and professionalism in IPL 2026
