A premium club in Mumbai’s Khar area on Sunday suspended the membership of India’s star batter Jemimah Rodrigues over allegations of her father reportedly using the club premises for ‘religious activities.
Khar Gymkhana reportedly decided to cancel Jemimah’s three-year membership in its general body meeting.
A managing committee member of the club was reportedly quoted as stating that the club established that Rodrigues’ father, Ivan, was associated with a group named ‘Brother Manuel Ministries’.
He reportedly added that their presidential hall was used to host 35 events in a year and a half and remarked about its proceedings, “We all know what was happening there.”
Recalling the club’s bye-laws Rule 4A, the committee member reportedly said, “Khar Gymkhana does not permit any religious activity.”
He reportedly remarked that the events had “dancing, expensive music equipment, and big screens.”
Allegations were further levied by the club that these events were organised to ‘convert’ the ‘vulnerable’.
Jemimah or her father have not yet responded to these grave allegations.
The former president of Khar Gymkhana was reportedly notified about these activities in the hall by a staff member.
Notably, Jemimah was invited by the club itself to become a member and use its facilities in 2023, according to reports.
