Shyama Devi Rana, mother of celebrated shooter and coach Jaspal Rana, passed away on Monday, just four days after the death of her son. She was 78.

Shyama Devi Rana, wife of Dronacharya Award-winning coach Narayan Singh Rana, was undergoing treatment at an Army hospital in New Delhi. Family members said her health deteriorated significantly following the sudden demise of Jaspal Rana on June 12.

Her passing has deepened the grief within the Rana family and among the sporting fraternity.

A native of Chilamu village in Uttarakhand's Tehri district, Jaspal Rana served as the high-performance coach for India's pistol shooting team.

He had recently returned from the ISSF World Cup in Munich, where he reportedly suffered chest pain and underwent a stent procedure at a Delhi hospital. Although he was said to be recovering, news of his sudden death shocked the sports community.

Jaspal Rana was one of India's most decorated shooters, earning international acclaim after setting a world record at the age of 18. Throughout his illustrious career, he brought laurels to the country with medal-winning performances at the Commonwealth and Asian Games and later contributed to Indian shooting as a respected coach.
