IPL 2025: Mitchell Starc to miss out; Faf du Plessis, Tristan Stubbs rejoin Delhi Capitals

Delhi Capitals have confirmed the return of Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs to the squad ahead of their crucial IPL 2025 match against Gujarat Titans on Sunday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. However, the franchise also announced that Mitchell Starc, their star Australian pacer, will miss the remainder of the tournament due to personal reasons, creating a significant void in their bowling attack.
In addition to Starc’s absence, South African all-rounder Donovan Ferreira is also unavailable for the rest of the season, leaving a gap in the squad that Delhi hopes to address in the coming matches.
To compensate for Starc’s departure, Delhi Capitals have signed Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk, who also pulled out of the tournament due to personal reasons. Mustafizur, who has previously played for DC in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, brings valuable experience to their bowling attack. Over 57 IPL matches, the left-arm pacer has picked up 61 wickets at an economy rate of 8.14, making him a reliable addition to the squad.
The loss of Jake Fraser-McGurk, one of the most explosive openers from last season, is a blow to Delhi. Fraser-McGurk, who had captivated fans with his powerful hitting, including a record-setting 15-ball fifty in IPL 2024, was expected to play a pivotal role. However, his early departure has paved the way for Mustafizur to join the side, bolstering the team’s bowling strength for the remainder of the tournament.
