Monaco once again turned into a memorable venue for Indian motorsport fans as the Indian national anthem echoed across the iconic circuit following Mahindra Racing’s triumph at the 2026 Monaco E-Prix.
Dutch driver Nyck de Vries delivered a stunning performance on the narrow streets of Monaco, securing victory for Mahindra Racing. The win marked De Vries’ fifth career victory in the FIA Formula E World Championship and Mahindra Racing’s first triumph in the GEN3 era. It was also the Dutchman’s maiden race win with the Indian team.
The victory led to the playing of India’s national anthem during the podium ceremony, as Formula E traditions require the anthems of both the winning driver’s country and the constructor’s nation to be played. While De Vries represented the Netherlands, Mahindra Racing competed under the Indian flag, making the moment especially emotional for Indian fans.
Videos of the anthem reportedly being played at Monaco quickly went viral on social media, with motorsport enthusiasts celebrating another proud moment for India on the global racing stage.
Starting from the front row, De Vries reportedly executed a near-perfect race strategy and later admitted the victory carried special emotional significance after a difficult start with the team.
As per reports, reflecting on the team’s progress, De Vries noted that when he joined Mahindra Racing in 2024, the team had finished near the bottom of the standings. However, steady improvement saw them rise to fourth place in the Teams’ Championship last season.
Monaco has increasingly become a special venue for Indian motorsport success. In 2025, Indian driver Kush Maini created history by winning the Formula 2 Sprint Race at Monaco, becoming the first Indian driver to achieve the feat.
