India Women Win Asian Games Gold, Beat Sri Lanka By 147 Runs

India Women clinched the gold medal in the women’s cricket competition at the 2026 Asian Games after defeating Sri Lanka by 147 runs in the final on Tuesday.

India posted a record 216/3 after being asked to bat, with Smriti Mandhana and Richa Ghosh leading the charge with aggressive knocks.

Sri Lanka struggled to keep up with the required run rate during the chase and were eventually bowled out for 69 in 15.4 overs. Shreyanka Patil took the final wicket, dismissing Kaushani Nuthyangana for 14, to seal India’s second Asian Games gold in women’s cricket.

India dominate Sri Lanka in final

The victory marked India Women’s eighth consecutive T20I win, their longest winning streak in the format. Their previous best was a seven-match winning run in 2018.

Sri Lanka had last defeated India in the 2024 Asia Cup final. Since then, India have won all eight T20I matches against them.

India also extended their strong record against Sri Lanka in T20I tournament finals. They had won the 2022 Asia Cup and 2023 Asian Games finals before losing the 2024 Asia Cup final. India then beat Sri Lanka in the 2026 Asia Cup final and followed it up with another emphatic win in the Asian Games final.

Second Asian Games gold for India

The victory also means India Women have won the Asian Games gold medal in cricket for the second time, following their triumph at the 2023 Asian Games.

India’s latest gold adds another major achievement to their record in the format, while their dominant final performance capped an unbeaten campaign in the tournament.
