Commonwealth Games 2022 in UK

The Indian Olympic Association has given the go ahead for India’s bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games, with Ahmedabad proposed as the venue if the bid succeeds.

The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) cleared the proposal during its Special General Assembly, confirming that the entire cost of hosting will be borne by the government.

The deadline for submitting the final bid documents is August 31, and India has already filed its Expression of Interest. With Canada withdrawing its bid, India’s chances of securing the event have improved.

In preparation, Commonwealth Sport’s Director of Games  Darren Hall recently visited Ahmedabad to inspect potential venues and held discussions with Gujarat government officials. Another major delegation from Commonwealth Sport is expected to visit the city later this month.

The General Assembly of Commonwealth Sport will take the final decision on the host country by the last week of November. India last hosted the Games in 2010, when New Delhi staged the multi-sport event.
