The International Cricket Council (ICC) has released the latest ODI batting rankings, bringing a major change at the top. New Zealand’s Daryl Mitchell has climbed to the number one position, pushing India’s Virat Kohli down to second place.

Kohli had returned to the top of the ODI rankings just last week, surpassing Rohit Sharma for the first time since July 2021. However, his stay at the top was short-lived as Mitchell’s outstanding performances against India reshaped the rankings.

Daryl Mitchell now leads the list with 845 rating points, while Kohli follows with 795 points. Other top batsmen in the rankings include Ibrahim Zadran, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Babar Azam.

Mitchell’s rise comes after an exceptional three-match ODI series against India. He scored a total of 352 runs, making him the highest run-scorer of the series. His best performance came in the second ODI, where he remained unbeaten on 131 runs from 117 balls. That knock earned him the Player of the Match award and helped New Zealand level the series, which they eventually won 2-1.

Despite losing the top ranking, Virat Kohli’s performance in the series was equally impressive. He scored 240 runs in three matches at an average of 80.00, including a brilliant century of 124 runs. Kohli finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the series, just behind Mitchell.
