German football club official wants World Cup boycott talks over the Trump tariff threat

Oke Gootlich, the president of Bundesliga club St. Pauli said that it's time to consider boycotting the World Cup because of the tariff threat by US President Donald Trump, according to reports.
In the summer of 2026,the FIFA World Cup is going to kick off from 11 June to 19 July in the USA. The World Cup is going to be hosted by Mexico and Canada. There are 104 matches in which 78 are going to be played in the USA, including the finals in New York's and New Jersey's stadiums.
Oke Gootlich,the Vice president of DFB, one of the 10 German federations, said if right now was the time to think and talk about boycotts.
Earlier, the US President had threatened to acquire Greenland,which is controlled by Denmark.
Trump faced opposition by the European Union following that, and threatened to impose heavy tariffs in retaliation.
Gottlich referenced a US-led boycott of the 1980 Olympic Games following the Soviet Union’s invasion of Afghanistan.
