A Pune advocate has filed an FIR against Hardik Pandya, alleging Pandya insulted the national flag during ICC Men’s T20 World Cup winning celebrations.

On March 8, Indian Cricket team won the second consecutive trophy of ICC Men’s T20 World Cup against New Zealand by 96 runs. After winning the world cup, players celebrated the win by wrapping the Indian flag on their body, which became a controversy after an advocate from Pune, Wajid Khan, filed an FIR against the Indian fast bowling-all-rounder Hardik Pandya alleging he insulted the Indian flag by wrapping it on his back.

Reportedly, advocate Khan registered the FIR in Pune’s Shivaji Nagar police station Wednesday.

Khan said, ”According to section 2 of the National Flag Act, we should respect the dignity of the national flag.”

“Pandya was so lost in his celebration of his victory that he was lying with his girlfriend, wearing the national flag… I believe it is an insult to the national flag, ” he added.

Pandya scored 217 runs with bat and took 9 wickets in the recently concluded T20 World Cup..
