FC Barcelona to shut its football academy operations across India
Spanish football club FC Barcelona has announced that their Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, and Pune academies in India will cease to operate as ‘Barça Academies’ from July 1, according to an official release from the club.
However, the official release did not state a reason for ceasing their operations in India.
FC Barcelona set foot in India in 2010 and claims to have trained many youngsters as per the club’s standards.
Training was provided to the youth in the club’s ‘La Masia’ academy’s methodology.
Through this academy worldwide, the club has produced legendary football players including Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquets, Gerard Pique, and Carles Puyol, among others.
Barça Academy also hosted two APAC (Asia-Pacific) tournaments in India in 2019 and 2020, and their Indian academies have been ever present in the 11 editions of the Academy World Cup held in Barcelona during Easter Week.
The club extended their gratitude to the 'families’, stating, “Barça would like to thank the families for the confidence shown in the project over the years as well as all the coaches, staff and Conscient Football (the club’s partner in India).”
