Former England cricketer and match referee Chris Broad has alleged that India was given preferential treatment during one of the ICC matches when Sourav Ganguly was the captain.

In an interview with The Telegraph, Broad claimed that he was once asked to be lenient towards the Indian team and to refrain from imposing a penalty for a slow over-rate.

Recalling his days as a match referee, Broad said that during one particular match, he received a call asking him to be lenient towards the Ganguly-led side and to find some time because it was Team India.

He further revealed that in another instance, the team was behind on the over rate. After he warned Captain Ganguly, the latter did not pay much attention, following which Broad was eventually instructed to impose a fine on the team.

He went on to accuse the BCCI of using its financial power to influence ICC decisions, including those involving match referees.
