CSK lodges complaint with BCCI over DJ remarks, ‘dosa, idli’ song at Bengaluru match

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has lodged a complaint with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) over the choice of music and comments made by a DJ during their away fixture against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) earlier this month, as per reports.
In a match on April 5 at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, CSK reportedly objected to the playing of a track, ‘Dosa, idli, sambar, chutney, chutney', associated with South Indian stereotypes ahead of their innings, terming it inappropriate.
A senior Indian Premier League (IPL) official reportedly confirmed the receipt of the complaint and said the governing council would examine the matter.
Apart from the song, CSK officials have objected to commentary following the dismissal of their players, stating that the role of stadium DJs is to enhance the atmosphere rather than undermine or target opposition teams.
The development comes against the backdrop of an intensifying rivalry between CSK and RCB, often referred to as the “Southern Derby”. While CSK historically dominated the fixture, RCB have gained the upper hand in recent encounters, winning four consecutive matches since 2024, including the latest clash.
Tensions also spilled over off the field after the match, with videos circulating on social media showing clashes between rival fans, prompting police intervention in at least one instance.
The BCCI is expected to review the complaint and take an appropriate view on the conduct of match-day entertainment at IPL venues.
