Cricket World Cup to commence from Oct 5: 48 matches to the glory
10 teams will compete across 46 matches to claim the trophy

Considered the biggest event in cricket, the 50-over ODI Men’s World Cup 2023 (CWC 23) will begin on Oct 5 from the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. For the first time, India will be hosting the event without a co-host, and 10 teams will fight it out across 48 matches to claim the trophy.
Cricket World Cup 2023 schedule and playing format
Beginning on Oct 5, the tournament will conclude on Nov 19, after 46 days. Over the course of these 46 days, 48 matches will be played in the round-robin format, where each team will face all the teams once. After the round-robin, semifinalists will be decided (top four teams of the round-robin) and the semifinals will be played on Nov 15 and 16.
The final will be played on Nov 19 at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
India’s matches at CWC 23
India will kick off its campaign in the World Cup 2023 with a match against the most successful team in the tournament history, Australia, at Chepauk Stadium in Chennai on Oct 8.
Australia has won the World Cup five times. The second-most world cups have been won by India and West Indies have won twice.
After Australia, India will face Afghanistan on Oct 11 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi.
One of the most anticipated matches of the tournament, India vs Pakistan, will be played on Oct 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

Venues for the Men’s World Cup 2023 in India
The tournament will see the matches being played at the ten stadiums across the country in Maharashtra, Telangana, Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, and West Bengal.

Apart from these stadiums, warm-up matches were played at ACA Stadium, Guwahati and Greenfield International Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram.
India’s past World Cup campaigns
India last won the World Cup in 2011 under the captaincy of Mahendra Singh Dhoni, and the event back then was also hosted by India. Before that, the first-ever World Cup for India was won by Kapil Dev’s team in 1983.
India was a runner-up in the 2003 World Cup and has been a semifinalist in 1987, 1996, 2015, and 2019 editions.
