Celebrities, leaders wish team India on T20 World Cup win at Ahmedabad stadium

Wishes poured in from political leaders and film celebrities across the country after Team India clinched the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 title with a commanding victory over New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

India defeated New Zealand by 96 runs in the final, successfully defending the title and becoming the first team in history to win the T20 World Cup three times.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi congratulated the team, praising the players for their skill and determination throughout the tournament.

“Champions! Congratulations to the Indian team on winning the ICC Men's T20 World Cup! This remarkable triumph reflects exceptional skills, determination and teamwork. They have shown outstanding grit through the tournament. This victory has filled every Indian heart with pride and joy. Well done, Team India!” the Prime Minister posted.

President Droupadi Murmu described the victory as a historic achievement for the nation.

“Heartiest congratulations to Team India, which scaled several peaks of history by winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup emphatically. India has the proud distinction of being the only country to win the cup three times. It is also the only team to win the cup twice in a row,” she said.

Vice-President C.P. Radhakrishnan also congratulated the team and called the victory a proud moment for the nation.

“Heartiest congratulations to Team India on winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup once again and retaining the title. With a history-making and commanding performance in the final, India has become the first team to win three ICC Men’s T20 World Cup titles, marking a proud moment for the nation,” he wrote.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the team’s performance and determination throughout the tournament.

“What a victory…!! Hats-off to World Champion #TeamIndia. Your exceptional performance throughout the tournament and the vigorous display of mettle has brought glory and pride for the nation. Congratulations to the entire team for making every Indian proud,” Shah posted. He was also present at the Narendra Modi Stadium during the final.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel termed the triumph a proud and joyous moment for every Indian.

“A proud and joyous moment for every Indian. Heartiest congratulations to Team India for their magnificent victory in the T20 World Cup. This remarkable triumph reflects the team’s extraordinary talent, relentless hard work, unwavering consistency and the true spirit of Indian cricket,” he wrote.

Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi said the victory represented the dreams of young cricketers across the country.

“It is not just a victory… it is a feeling. It reflects the dreams played out in every street and the passion of every child who says, ‘One day I will play for India.’ Tonight, those dreams lifted the World Cup. India doesn’t just play cricket, India lives it,” he said.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy also congratulated the team, saying, “This magnificent victory reflects the determination, unity, and indomitable spirit of Team India. The players have once again showcased exceptional skill, composure, and resilience on the global stage, making every Indian immensely proud.”

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu wrote, “Congratulations to Team India on winning the ICC T20 World Cup 2026 in an absolute thriller! With this victory, India becomes the first nation ever to capture the tournament trophy three times.”

Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan also praised the team and congratulated captain Suryakumar Yadav for leading the side brilliantly, while appreciating Sanju Samson, Jasprit Bumrah and Varun Chakaravarthy for their performances.

Meanwhile, Bollywood celebrities also celebrated the historic win on social media.

Actress Anushka Sharma wrote, “Heartiest congratulations to this brilliant team for this phenomenal victory!! Back to back World Cup wins.”

Kareena Kapoor Khan reposted a graphic celebrating the victory with the Indian flag emoji.

Actor Shahid Kapoor shared the winning moment and wrote, “Pure class from Team India tonight.”

Vicky Kaushal posted, “WORLD CHAMPIONS BABY!!! Pure dominance. Pure class. Well done TEAM INDIA.”

Suniel Shetty wrote, “Pressure…Expectations…1.4 Billion Heartbeats. This wasn’t just a win… this was a statement. World Champions. Again. Proud of every single one of you boys. The Cup is home — where it belongs.”

Anil Kapoor shared a light-hearted post writing, “Aaj kiwi thodi zyada hi meethi lag rahi hai! Congratulations to our Indian team you never fail to make us proud.”
