Brooklyn Beckham breaks silence on fallout with parents David and Victoria

Brooklyn Beckham has spoken publicly for the first time about his estrangement from parents David and Victoria Beckham, issuing a lengthy and deeply personal statement in which he accused them of controlling his life, manipulating media narratives, and repeatedly disrespecting his wife, actor Nicola Peltz.
The statement, posted on Brooklyn Beckham’s Instagram Stories, comes amid widespread speculation over tensions within the Beckham family, following reports that family members had unfollowed each other on social media.
“I have been silent for years and made every effort to keep these matters private,” Beckham wrote. “Unfortunately, my parents and their team have continued to go to the press, leaving me with no choice but to speak for myself and tell the truth about only some of the lies that have been printed.”
In his statement, the 26-year-old said he does not wish to reconcile with his family and rejected suggestions that he is being controlled by his wife. “I’m not being controlled, I’m standing up for myself for the first time in my life,” he said.
Beckham accused his parents of orchestrating press narratives to preserve what he described as an “inauthentic” public image. “For my entire life, my parents have controlled narratives in the press about our family. The performative social media posts, family events and inauthentic relationships have been a fixture of the life I was born into,” he wrote.
He further alleged that his parents had gone to “countless lengths” to plant false stories in the media, often “at the expense of innocent people,” to protect the Beckham brand. “But I believe the truth always comes out,” he added.
Much of Beckham’s statement focused on events surrounding his 2022 wedding to Nicola Peltz, which has previously been reported as a source of tension between the families. He alleged that Victoria Beckham cancelled plans to design Peltz’s wedding dress at the “eleventh hour”, forcing her to urgently find an alternative.
Beckham also claimed that, weeks before the wedding, his parents pressured him to sign away the rights to his name, warning that the deal would come into effect if signed before the wedding. He alleged that attempts were made to “bribe” him into agreeing to the terms and that his refusal had lasting consequences on his relationship with his parents.
“My holdout affected the payday, and they have never treated me the same since,” he said.
He further alleged that his mother referred to him as “evil” during wedding planning after he and Peltz chose to seat elderly relatives without spouses at the main table. He also claimed that members of his family told him on the eve of the wedding that Peltz was “not blood” and “not family”.
In one of the most serious allegations, Beckham described an incident during the wedding reception in which his mother allegedly disrupted his planned first dance with his wife. He claimed that singer Marc Anthony called him to the stage at a moment scheduled for a romantic dance, only for his mother to be waiting there instead.
“She danced very inappropriately on me in front of everyone,” Beckham wrote. “I’ve never felt more uncomfortable or humiliated in my entire life.”
He said the incident was one of the reasons he and Peltz later chose to renew their vows, in an effort to create new, positive memories of their wedding day.
Beckham also accused his parents of persistently attempting to undermine his marriage, alleging that women from his past were repeatedly invited into his and his wife’s lives in ways that were “clearly intended to make us both uncomfortable”.
He described failed attempts to spend time with his father during a trip to London for David Beckham’s birthday, claiming he was ignored for a week and offered a meeting only if it took place at a large party with media presence. He said his father eventually agreed to meet him on the condition that Peltz was not invited.
“It was a slap in the face,” he said.
According to Beckham, his family later refused to meet him altogether during a visit to Los Angeles.
Criticising what he called the prioritisation of “Brand Beckham” over personal relationships, Brooklyn Beckham said family support was often measured by public appearances and social media posts rather than genuine connection.
“Family ‘love’ is decided by how much you post on social media, or how quickly you drop everything to show up and pose for a family photo opp,” he wrote.
He also alleged that his mother declined to support an animal welfare initiative led by Peltz during the Los Angeles wildfires, despite the couple’s repeated public support for family projects in the past.
Rejecting the narrative that his wife controls him, Beckham said he had lived under parental control for most of his life and had suffered from severe anxiety as a result. “For the first time in my life, since stepping away from my family, that anxiety has disappeared,” he wrote.
“I wake up every morning grateful for the life I chose, and have found peace and relief.”
Beckham concluded by stating that he and his wife want a life free from public image management and media manipulation. “All we want is peace, privacy and happiness for us and our future family,” he said.
Neither David nor Victoria Beckham have publicly responded to the allegations.
