Bangladesh sealed a historic nine-wicket victory over top-ranked Australia at Darwin's Marrara Oval on Sunday, claiming their maiden Test win on Australian soil.

Chasing a target of 57 on day four, Mominul Haque (30 not out) cut Beau Webster to the boundary, finishing the match alongside Shadman Islam (25 not out). The win gave Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side a 1-0 lead in the two-match series, marking Bangladesh’s first red-ball victory in Australia in just their third attempt.

Hasan Mahmud, Mehidy Miraz dismantle Australian Resistance

Pacer Hasan Mahmud earned the Player of the Match honours with figures of 9-111 across both innings, having set up the game on day one with a six-wicket haul that restricted Australia to 198.

The hosts fought back in their second innings through Cameron Green, who struck his maiden home Test century with a resolute 108. However, Mahmud ended Green's five-hour vigil by skidding one low into his stumps. Off-spinner Mehidy Hasan Miraz then cleaned up the lower order, exploiting footmarks to take 5-52 and dismiss Australia for 284.

First-Innings Domination Sets Up Chase

The visitors laid the foundation for the triumph by posting a formidable 426 in their first essay, powered by opener Tanzid Hasan's maiden Test hundred and an all-round effort of 65 from Mehidy.

The victory stands as Bangladesh's second Test win against Australia, following their 2017 success in Dhaka, and ensures they cannot lose the series. The second and final Test begins next week at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.
