Bangladesh Get WTC Points Table Boost After Thrashing Australia In Darwin

Bangladesh achieved one of their greatest moments in international cricket when they stunned a full-strength Australian team in the latter's own backyard with a historic nine-wicket win in Darwin on Sunday.

Bangladesh registered their first-ever Test win against Australia Down Under after chasing down a paltry target of 57 on Day 4 of the Test match at the Marrara Cricket Ground.

Bangladesh climb to fourth in WTC standings

Following their famous win, Najmul Hossain Shanto's team received a major boost in the World Test Championship points table, while the Pat Cummins-led Australian side suffered a setback at the top of the nine-team standings.

Before the opening Test of the two-match series, Bangladesh had a PCT of 58.33, which has now climbed to 66.67 after their Darwin win.

Australia remain at the top of the standings, but their PCT has slipped significantly from 87.50 to 77.78. They now narrowly lead second-placed South Africa, who have a PCT of 75.

New Zealand are third with a PCT of 72.22 from six matches, while Bangladesh are fourth. India are fifth with a PCT of 48.15 from nine games and are currently facing sixth-ranked Sri Lanka in an ongoing two-match Test series.

England (24.36), Pakistan (22.22) and West Indies (20.83) occupy the remaining three positions.

Hasan Mahmud, Tanzid Hasan lead Bangladesh's dominant show

Bangladesh dominated proceedings for almost the entirety of the match. Led by fast bowler Hasan Mahmud's six-wicket haul, the visitors bowled Australia out for just 198 in the first innings after the hosts opted to bat.

In reply, Tanzid Hasan Tamim became the first Bangladeshi to score a Test century against Australia. His 101, along with Mehidy Hasan Miraz's 65, helped Bangladesh post 426 and take a commanding 228-run lead.

Australia fight back but fall short

In the second innings, Australia put up a much stronger fight, with Cameron Green scoring 104. However, there was little resistance from the rest of the batting line-up as Australia were bowled out for 284.

Mehidy Hasan claimed a five-wicket haul early on Day 4 to put Bangladesh firmly in control.

Bangladesh chase 57 to make history

Bangladesh were set a target of just 57 runs and completed the chase comfortably, losing only Tanzid Hasan, who had scored a century in the first innings.

Shadman Islam and Mominul Haque remained unbeaten to guide Bangladesh to a historic nine-wicket victory and their first-ever Test win over Australia on Australian soil.
