Backlash against Sanjay Manjrekar’s ‘serious business’ remark at RR Vs RCB match

In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, the Indian broadcaster Sanjay Manjrekar faced backlash after his allegedly sexist remarks on Apr 6.
When the land of Rajasthan at Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur was set to witness the Rajasthan Royals (RR) vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) match, Manjrekar talked about ‘Pink Promise’, a women’s empowerment initiative of the Rajasthan Royals team.
Things were great until he spelt out, “Now back to some serious business,” exactly after talking about a woman’s initiative and moving forward for the toss.
Manjrekar’s remark irked many netizens, who criticised his statement.
The former cricketer’s comment forced Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi to criticise his statement, saying, “Don’t be so dismissive of the cause”.
A netizen wrote, “He’s the worst commentator I’ve seen,” while others wrote, “Someone should have asked him to BEHAVE”.
Days ago, Manjrekar was criticised for asking the fans, who were booing Hardik Pandya, to “behave” at the toss in the Mumbai Indians match against the Rajasthan Royals at the Wankhede Stadium.
RR has launched the Pink Promise campaign to empower women in rural Rajasthan, in which six solar panels will be installed in the rural areas of Rajasthan to hit every six in the match, and its work will also be given to women.
The RR team wore special all-pink matchday kits against RCB on Apr 6.
Moreover, the match ended at midnight with RCB’s defeat by six wickets.
