After more than seven years since the lightning Usain Bolt hung up his boots in track running, the sporting world has experienced a glimpse of his athleticism in a 16-year-old Australian schoolboy.
Queensland-boy Gout Gout, regarded as a ‘schoolboy sensation’, finished a 200-metre sprint race in a mere 20.04 seconds on Saturday, which was a new national record.
His feat earned him a priceless reaction from Bolt, the record-holding legend himself. Bolt shared on social media about Gout: “He looks like young me.”
Gout, quoted as per Australian media, said about the reaction from Bolt, “Obviously it has been mad and hasn’t really sunk in yet. Probably not for a couple of months. It has been a crazy response.”
The year-11 student was competing at the Australian school championships in Brisbane.
Gout also clocked 10.04 seconds in the 100 metres heats on Friday.
His family background originates from the war-struck South Sudan, from where his parents escaped.
Gout also bagged a professional contract with Adidas, following which he will be heading to Florida, USA, to join USA’s Olympic legend Noah Lyles in a training camp.
The sports circuit will be excited to witness him rise to his potential, possibly fitting in time with the 2032 Brisbane Olympics.
