15-year-old Priteesmita Bhoi breaks world record, wins Gold at Asian Youth Games 2025

India’s rising weightlifting star Priteesmita Bhoi made history at the 3rd Asian Youth Games 2025 in Bahrain, clinching gold medal in the girls’ 44 kg category with a combined lift of 158 kg.
The 15-year-old from Dhenkanal, Odisha, shattered the world youth record in clean and jerk with a lift of 92 kg, while also securing silver in snatch with 66 kg.
Her total of 158 kg not only earned her the top podium finish but also placed her among the most promising young weightlifters in Asia.
According to reports, Bhoi was raised by her mother after her father passed at a very young age, she reportedly began her training with borrowed equipment, guided by her coach Gopal Chandra Das at the High Performance Centre in Dhenkanal, where she honed her strength and technique rep by rep.
Meanwhile, Indian youth boxers delivered a historic campaign, finishing with four golds, two silvers, and one bronze the highest medal tally by any discipline in the Indian contingent and the country’s best-ever showing in youth boxing at the continental level.
India topped the Girls’ Boxing section, finishing Rank 1 with four golds and one silver.
Khushi Chand (46 kg) started India’s golden run with a 4-1 win over China’s Luo Jinxiu.
Ahaana Sharma (50 kg) followed with a first-round Referee Stopped Contest (RSC) victory against Korea’s Ma Jong Hyang.
Chandrika Bhoreshi Pujari (54 kg) claimed gold after a commanding 5–0 decision against Uzbekistan’s Muhammadova Kumriniso.
Anshika (+80 kg) sealed the fourth gold, while Harnoor Kaur (66 kg) took silver after a close bout.
On the boys’ side, Lanchenba Singh Moibungkhongbam (50 kg) earned silver after a tough fight against Kazakhstan’s Nurmakhan Zhumagali, and Anant Deshmukh (66 kg) secured bronze.
