15-year-old Indian weightlifter Preetismita Bhoi breaks world record at IWF

15-year-old Preetismita Bhoi set a new world record in the weightlifting for clean and jerk in women’s 40 kg category. With that, Bhoi claimed a gold medal for India at the IWF World Youth Championship in Lima, Peru.

On May 12, she lifted 76 kg, surpassing the previous record by one kilogram.

She also lifted 57kg in the snatch, achieving a combined total of 133 kg.

The silver medal was also claimed by India as Jyoshna Sabar lifted 125 kg (56 kg in snatch and 69 kg in clean and jerk).

The bronze medal went to Fatma Kolcak of Turkey with a total lift of 120kg (55 kg in snatch and 65 kg in clean and jerk).

Good day for Indian weightlifters

In the men’s 49 kg event, Babulal Hembrom secured a bronze medal by lifting 193 kg (86 kg in snatch and 107 kg in clean and jerk).

In the women’s 45 kg category, Payal won a silver medal with a combined weight of 147 kg (65 kg in snatch and 82 kg in clean and jerk).
