In the first four-day youth game against Australia U19 at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, India U19’s debutant, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, shone with a record-breaking fastest hundred by an Indian in his category.

After his explosive performance with the bat in this game, Vaibhav now stands second only to England’s star all-rounder Moeen Ali, who scored a 56-ball century for England U19 in 2005.

Vaibhav scored a blistering century in just 58 balls, which consisted of 14 fours and 4 sixes. He ended his innings with a score of 104 after being run out in the 19th over.

Vaibhav has put up a stellar show in the game by scoring a 133-run opening partnership with Vihaan Malhotra.

India’s innings ended at 296 runs with a slender lead of 3 runs against Australia’s 293.

Come the second day today, Australia has managed 110 runs with a loss of 4 wickets after 39 overs. The side currently holds a lead of 107 runs, with skipper Simon Budge at the crease.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi: A star in the making

Vaibhav, who plays for Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), made history in the Ranji Trophy tournament at the age of 12 years and 284 days, becoming the fourth-youngest player to make his first-class debut in the 90-year-old tournament earlier this year.

Vaibhav is recognised as an explosive batter from Samastipur who is now settled in Patna and had earlier played for Bihar in the 2023 edition of the Cooch Behar Trophy.

He had scored 151 runs off 128 balls (22x4, 3x6) against Jharkhand in one of the matches, and in the same match, he also scored 76 in the second inning.
