WhatsApp has reportedly begun rolling out its new premium subscription service, called “WhatsApp Plus”, to a limited number of iPhone users, introducing a range of customisation and personalisation features for the messaging platform.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the subscription is currently available only to select users running the latest version of the app on iPhones.

Unlike premium subscription models offered by some social media platforms, WhatsApp Plus reportedly focuses primarily on interface customisation rather than introducing major functional changes.

The Meta-owned messaging platform had earlier been testing the feature through beta versions of the application.

What’s new?

Under the new subscription tier, users reportedly gain access to premium sticker packs featuring animated overlay effects, along with 18 accent colours that can replace WhatsApp’s default green interface theme.

Subscribers can also choose from 14 alternative app icons, ranging from minimalist designs to more decorative styles.

The subscription further expands certain chat management features. WhatsApp Plus users can reportedly pin up to 20 chats simultaneously, compared with the standard limit of three chats for regular users.

Additional tools include bulk customisation controls allowing users to apply a single theme, notification tone and ringtone across multiple chats within the same list.

The premium package also includes 10 exclusive ringtones.

According to the report, pricing for WhatsApp Plus may vary by region. In Europe, the subscription is reportedly priced at €2.49 per month (over ₹250).

Some users may also receive free trial offers lasting either one week or one month, depending on their country.

At present, WhatsApp Plus is reportedly being offered only to a limited group of iPhone users and is not yet available for WhatsApp Business accounts.

The company has not officially announced a wider global rollout timeline for the premium subscription service.
