mAadhaar to be discontinued soon, UIDAI launches new Aadhaar App with updated digital features

The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has announced that the existing mAadhaar application will soon be discontinued and has urged users to shift to the newly launched Aadhaar App, which promises faster access, smarter features and a more convenient digital identity experience.
In a statement, UIDAI said the new app has been designed to simplify Aadhaar-related services and allow users to manage multiple functions directly from their smartphones without visiting physical centres for routine updates.
What’s new in Aadhar application?
According to details available on the Google Play Store, the new Aadhaar App introduces several upgraded features under what UIDAI describes as a “new era of digital identity”.
One of the major additions is the ability for users to update Aadhaar credentials directly through their own devices. Services available on the app include mobile number update, address update and family member request management using SRN numbers.
The app also allows users to securely share authenticated contact details through a QR code-based “Contact Card” feature, enabling quick and secure exchange of Aadhaar-linked information.
In another key feature, users can now lock or unlock their biometric data and monitor Aadhaar authentication history directly through the application, offering greater control over privacy and security.
The platform further allows multiple Aadhaar profiles to be managed on a single device and introduces a “Selective Share” option, enabling users to choose exactly what information they wish to share.
Details such as name, photograph, date of birth, age status, gender and mobile number can now be selectively shared as required.
UIDAI has advised existing mAadhaar users to download the new Aadhaar App as the older application is expected to be phased out soon.
