Hundreds of employees at LinkedIn are set to lose their jobs this summer after the company reportedly announced a fresh round of layoffs across the US. A report cited that 606 LinkedIn employees were informed last week that they would be permanently laid off that expectedly take effect on July 13.

The layoffs were reportedly hinted at earlier this month in an internal memo sent by LinkedIn CEO Daniel Shapero. In the memo, Shapero had reportedly said that the company was restructuring its operations to focus on long-term priorities and improve efficiency across teams.

Shapero also confirmed that employees across multiple departments would be affected by the restructuring. According to reports, the company is also planning to reduce spending in several areas, including marketing campaigns, vendor expenses, customer events, and underutilised office space, in an effort to focus resources on projects with higher returns.

Following this, they reportedly announced layoffs in California, where 352 employees are likely to lose their jobs and 66 remote workers linked to the same office were also affected. The San Francisco office saw 108 layoffs, while 59 employees in Sunnyvale and 21 workers in Carpinteria were also impacted, as per reports.

The layoffs also come at a time when several major technology firms are restructuring operations and reducing workforce sizes to prioritise AI-focused spending.

The reports suggested that LinkedIn was considering cutting nearly 5% of its workforce from around 17,500 employees globally, which was expected to be over 800 employees.

The timing of the layoffs has drawn attention, especially as the company had recently reported a 12% year-over-year rise in revenue in its third-quarter earnings.
