An Indian-origin entrepreneur is at the centre of a major potential deal in the global AI space, as SpaceX explores acquiring coding startup Cursor.

Aman Sanger, associated with Cursor, is part of the team behind the rapidly growing AI coding platform, which focuses on next-generation developer tools and knowledge-based AI systems.

According to reports, SpaceX has entered into a strategic agreement with Cursor that includes an option to acquire the company for $60 billion. The deal also outlines an alternative $10 billion joint development partnership, under which both firms would collaborate without a full acquisition.

The partnership is expected to strengthen SpaceX’s position in the fast-growing AI coding sector, where companies like OpenAI and Anthropic are currently leading players.

As part of the agreement, Cursor would gain access to SpaceX’s advanced computing infrastructure, including large-scale GPU-powered systems such as the Colossus supercomputer cluster. This would help accelerate the training and development of its AI models.

If the acquisition goes through, it could become one of the largest deals in the technology sector. The move is also seen as part of Elon Musk’s broader strategy to strengthen the AI ecosystem ahead of a potential SpaceX IPO. Notably, SpaceX has recently integrated Musk’s AI venture xAI into its operations.

Aman Sanger, studied Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and has also been part of Google, where he worked as a software engineering intern.
