Elon Musk’s XChat to roll out in IOS devices on April 17

A new messaging platform, XChat, is set to launch on April 17, 2026, marking a significant step in Elon Musk’s plan to transform X (formerly Twitter) into a comprehensive everything app.
The app has already appeared on the Apple App Store for iPhone and iPad, allowing users to pre-order it ahead of release. Once available, it will automatically download on users’ devices.
Unlike the current messaging system within X, XChat will function as a separate application while still linking to users’ existing X accounts. Notably, users will be able to communicate with others on X without needing a phone number.
XChat is expected to offer a range of modern messaging features, including end-to-end encryption, voice and video calling, group chats, and disappearing messages. The platform is also being positioned as privacy-focused, with no advertisements or tracking.
The initial rollout will be limited to iOS devices, with an Android version expected to follow later. Additionally, the app is said to integrate with Grok, enabling users to interact with AI directly within chats.
The launch comes after earlier delays, as the feature was initially expected in 2025. With the official listing now live, the April 17 release date appears confirmed.
XChat represents a major move in expanding X beyond traditional social media, aligning with Musk’s broader ambition to build a multi-functional digital ecosystem similar to apps like WeChat.
