Chinese man survives 40 hours without heartbeat with ECMO machine
A 40-year-old man in China has survived after his heart stopped beating for 40 hours, in what doctors are calling a miracle, as per reports.
The man reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest and doctors could not restart his heart even after using electric shocks. To save him, the medical team used a special machine called ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), which works like an artificial heart and lungs.
Doctors continued the treatment carefully as it can cause serious problems like blood clots or bleeding. The team closely monitored the patient and adjusted the treatment to keep him stable.
After his heart started beating again, the man remained on the ECMO for about 10 days. Within 20 days, he recovered well, walked out of the hospital on his own, and had no major health problems, noted the reports.
