Supermoon is set to light up the sky on November 5 according to reports. On Wednesday, November 5, at 8:19 am ET (6.49 pm IST), the full moon will peak and this one will not be an ordinary full moon, according to ‘Timeanddate’.

It will be the largest and brightest full moon of the entire year.

This November full moon will sit roughly 2,21,818 miles (3,56,980 km) from Earth, the nearest distance any full moon will achieve in 2025, as per AstroPixels. A moon this close hasn’t occurred since early 2019.

In North America, the November full moon is traditionally known as the “Beaver Moon” the time when beavers become most active preparing their lodges before deep winter sets in.

The same moon has also been referred to as the Frost Moon, Snow Moon, Trading Moon and even the Darkest Depths Moon. Among the Anishinaabeg communities, the name for this moon is Baashkaakodin Giizis translated as ‘Freezing Moon,’ as per the Center for Native American Studies.

Supermoons occur when a full moon coincides with the Moon being near its closest orbital point to Earth (perigee). NASA explains that a supermoon can look up to 14% larger and nearly 30% brighter than a full moon at its most distant point (apogee).

Apart from this, January’s ‘Wolf Moon’ is expected to be another supermoon soon.
