If someone recording you on Meta glasses without your permission was on your worries list, Meta has invited an online outcry after it has introduced Muse Image, its first image generation model from Meta Superintelligence Labs, bringing advanced AI-powered image creation to Meta AI across its apps.
The feature allows users to generate realistic images from simple text prompts, edit existing photos, combine multiple images and even use public Instagram content to create personalised visuals.
However, by default, all open accounts on Instagram is accessible to these feature. Meaning one can use images from your profile and edit it with Muse.
The feature is now available through Meta AI and is also powering new creative experiences on Instagram and WhatsApp.
Meta says the feature will gradually expand to Facebook, Messenger and advertisers through Advantage+ Creative.
What is Muse Image?
Muse Image acts as an AI-powered creative assistant that can generate high-quality visuals using conversational prompts.
Users can:
- Create images from text prompts.
- Blend multiple photos into a single image.
- Remove unwanted objects or people from photos.
- Add or edit objects by sketching directly on an image.
- Generate graphics with clean, readable text, including infographics and QR codes.
- Use preset prompts for inspiration.
- Continue editing images without restarting the conversation.
One of the most notable additions is the ability to @mention Instagram accounts while creating an image.
Meta AI can use publicly available photos from tagged Instagram profiles to generate personalised visuals such as invitations, creative concepts, or social media graphics.
Available across Meta apps
Muse Image is also introducing:
- More than 30 AI-powered effects for Instagram Stories.
- AI image generation in WhatsApp chats with Meta AI in selected countries.
- Future support for Facebook, Messenger and Meta's advertising tools.
How to stop Meta AI from using your Instagram posts
If you do not want Meta AI to use your public Instagram posts and Reels for AI image generation, you can disable the feature without making your account private.
Follow these steps:
- Open the Instagram app.
- Go to your Profile.
- Tap the three-line menu in the top-right corner.
- Scroll down to Sharing and reuse.
- Open Allow people to create with and reuse your content.
- Turn off the toggles for Posts and Reels.
Disabling these settings prevents others from using your public Instagram content for AI-generated creations through Meta's new feature.
Meta says users remain in control of how their public content is used, and the settings can be changed at any time.
