Apple is reportedly preparing to power a revamped version of its Siri voice assistant using Google’s Gemini artificial intelligence model, as part of a newly announced multi-year agreement between the two technology giants.

As per reports, the partnership will allow Apple to leverage Google’s Gemini AI model along with its cloud infrastructure to enable advanced AI-driven features across Apple devices. In a joint statement, the companies said Apple selected Google’s AI technology after evaluating multiple options, describing it as a strong foundation for Apple’s future AI capabilities.

The move is expected to help Apple accelerate the rollout of its next-generation Siri, which had earlier faced delays after being previewed at the company’s 2024 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). The postponement had raised concerns among analysts about Apple falling behind rivals in the fast-moving AI race.

While the agreement may signal ongoing challenges for Apple in developing a fully competitive in-house AI model, the development has reportedly been welcomed by investors. Market watchers believe Apple is increasingly relying on artificial intelligence features—particularly an upgraded Siri—to revive device sales following a difficult period for the iPhone lineup.

For Google, the deal is being seen as a significant victory in the intensifying competition among AI developers. Although Apple already works with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT into select features, reports suggest that Gemini will play a central role in Apple’s broader AI strategy going forward. However, it remains unclear how this new agreement will impact Apple’s existing collaboration with OpenAI.

According to a report by Bloomberg, Apple had previously explored partnerships with several AI firms, including Anthropic, and was expected to pay roughly $1 billion annually to incorporate Gemini into Siri. The report cited sources familiar with the matter.
